Kansas Republicans Are Slaves To A Monster Of Their Own Making

As a very young child, I lived in fear of the box in my father’s drawer. I knew, at 3 or 4, that the box was my grandfather’s voice box**. But part of me believed every time the dial turned, a giant monster came a bit closer to my house. I stopped believing in the monster as I got older. It was a monster I made in my mind and eventually outgrew.

Kansas Republicans have created another kind of monster - a monster of fear and anger, and as the 2015 session shows, Kansas Republicans have lost control and now find themselves slaves to the very monster they've made.

As the state house entered another day of an extended session Republicans still were paralyzed, unable to come up with a deal that would satisfy their various wings. House Democrats had it easy - acknowledging the significant errors within the bill and simply stating "we will be a no".

Kansas Democrats employ the Pottery Barn rule - you break it, you bought it - while Kansas Republicans are finding that they no longer control the monster they've created.
