Complete Failure in Kansas Legislature as Budget Fails 3-108

When Marvin Kleeb, a Johnson County Republican stepped into the house well tonight, his goal was to get a sense of the house.  After urging fellow members in a sparsely attended Republican caucus prior, Rep. Kleeb encouraged members to vote in favor of a conference committee report aimed at ending the Kansas Budget stalemate.

Many in the hallways had assumed that the legislation was in trouble and unlikely to pass, but would give Kleeb a starting point to find out what the house was OK with and what needed changed.

Instead, Kleeb faced a house that resoundly rejected the budget in a way that provided house conferees a message as clear as mud, and no clear direction as to a solution.
